Fjell — Support
Fjell tells you how long it would take to walk to somewhere you can see, or somewhere on the map. Email noahjasonmanning@gmail.com and you will get a reply from the person who built it.
Common questions
- It cannot find my location.
- With no mobile signal there is no assisted GPS, so the first fix outdoors can take up to a minute. Stand where you can see open sky. If it still fails, check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Fjell.
- The labels in Look are pointing at the wrong hills.
- Drag sideways to nudge them into line. Phone compasses drift, especially near cars and buildings.
- It says there is no way on foot.
- Something impassable is in the way — usually a river or a lake. Open Adjust → Water and allow a swim, and it will route through.
- Does it work with no signal?
- Yes, inside an area you have saved. Offline tab → Save a map area, frame the ground you care about, and everything works there with the phone in airplane mode.
- How accurate are the times?
- They come from Tobler's hiking function, a published model of walking speed against slope, adjusted for surface, your pace and your pack. They are an honest estimate of walking effort, not a route you should follow. Always carry a real map.
Safety
Fjell is a planning toy, not a navigation device. It does not know about private land, closed trails, avalanche risk, tides or the weather. Do not use it to decide whether something is safe.
